Shakespeare Texts

1) How are they the same today?
Scripts today are more audience/ camera/ stage friendly rather than actor friendly. Lots of scripts today are more about the words for the people more about the words for the actor. It is harder for an actor to find the meaning in a piece and memorize it because Shakespeare made his scripts memorization/ verbalization/ pace friendly.

2) How are they different from Shakespeare's time?
They are more directed at the audience than the actor.

3) Suggest a way to perform one of the ages to show both the similarities and the differences (between Shakespeare's time and today) without changing the actual text.
The meanings of words have most likely changed in some way from Shakespeare's time and the actions that go with those word are definitely interpreted differently by an actor. We can not jump into the skin of someone living in the 14 or 15 hundreds because we don't know what it was like. So presumably we can't possibly preform the same way as the actors in Shakespeare's time did but we can make it 21st century absorbable. Just preform and display things people today understand through your interpretation of the old text.

FLQ Docudrama

1) How effective was my contribution to the group?
Fairly effective. I had a lot of input, as did most of the group members. We all had good ideas to make the docudrama better and thats one of the reasons we worked well as a group.

2) Have I encouraged everyone to be heard in a non-threatening environment?
Yes. I have.

3) What is the value in performing a documdrama?
It gives people insight into something they may not have know about, actors included, and it is challenging to both be historically accurate and act as a historically important figure.

4) What did you feel was positive and successful in your production of the docudrama?
The whole thing went very well but the way the production ran so smoothly, with the exception of one part, was good to see.

5) What do you feel could have been improved in your docudrama?
As I said before, that one little delay we in staging could have gone better. It was just a matter of moving some stuff behind stage but other than that everything went very well.

What kinds of decisions are many teens presently faced with?
Besides the infinite choices that everyone makes every second teens are faced with the very pivotal "life style choices". I cringe when I write that but it's true teens are exposed to a whole galaxy of choices to decide who they are and what they want people to see of them. Wether they want to live a healthy or un-healthy life and what goals their going to set for their future.

What information do teens to help make these decisions?
I think that other people who have gone through the experience of making those kinds of decisions would be the best source of info. I think parents would be a bad person to go to because your parents, no matter whose they are, want you to be a certain way and that may purge the process of actually making your own choices instead of having someone make them for you. But someone who has made those decisions would be a good choice.

Describe your life ten years from now.
Trying to get along with acting as a career and trying to "suck the yoke out of life". I doubt I'll get everything I want to do done but I'll try. It would be good to say "rolling in money" but I know that won't happen right away. I have no idea if I'm gona make it ten years. Thats a lot of time. I've thought about this a lot and I still don't have an answer. I don't think anyone really does. All the other blogs will just be people dreams or goals. I'd like to see them get there in 10 years. There thats it. I'll be the patient observer. Waiting for someone to mess up so I can step in and reap the benefits. Now all I have to worry about is what everyone else will be doing in 10 years.

Radioshow Questions

1) Describe your groups process in creating your radio play.
Jack and I just got together and just kind of spat out ideas that were mildly amusing until we got some that we really liked. We tried to see what would be the best character to do the show in and it was that greasy @$$hole kinda guy. It wasn't a very long process but then the whole computer crashing thing held us up a fair bit.

2) What did you feel was successful about your performance?
It ran really smoothly and the switching between computers wasn't really that bad. We got some really good feedback from people too.

3) What do you feel could have been imporved in your performance.
I could have stayed in character a lot better just by not laughing. It was really the first time we had fully run through the revised script so a couple things made me laugh pretty hard, but I had to keep going. That and we could have put it on one computer under any other circumstances but my computer wasn't being very nice so that didn't happen.

What is a ritual?
A repetition of warship of something or someone or a repetition to gain something mentally or spiritually.

What are examples of rituals?
Sunday mass, bar mitzvahs, movie festivals, The Olympics, most sporting events and large gatherings for fundraising or me to we.

How are rituals related to nature?
They often have to do with months or seasons or even the lunar calendar and its effect on people. It

Why is repetition critical to the enacting of a ritual?
Because you need people to remember certain parts of the ritual and there is nothing that can be committed to memory better than something repeated over and over and over and over and over and over.

List event that are repetitive in your live or the world around you.
Going to school, getting ready for events or just going out, meal times or the news starting at the same time every night.

What acting would you repeat on a regular basis?
Not sure what you mean here Sir.

Do rituals have symbolic value? Explain the value of symbolism in ritual.
Yes most often they do. In Sunday mass or most religious services there is one item or person who represents a greater power or being. IE. The cross, the torah, or the flying spaghetti monster. http://www.venganza.org/

How are rituals associated with theatre?
The first “plays”, if you can call them that, were in ancient Greece and it was a reenactment of the birth or death of one of their gods. What they would do was dress up in masks and gowns and kill a goat in front of people and it would be an entertaining thing to go see. Now people still dress up in masks and gown but there is less goat blood spilled.

How are rituals related to memory?
Rituals are like learning a song for performance or going to church, whatever it is that you do during the ritual usually gets drilled into your head so you remember it. It does have a brainwashing aspect to it but that is often overlooked for the purpose of the ritual.

How are hierarchies related to status? How does one assert one's status over others?

When someone is in a position like CEO, Principal or president they are usually very proud of themselves and expect respect. When someone is in a lower ranking position they usually don't get as much respect but they might deserve it. People who have power are usually wealthy well off people and people who are well off and wealthy usually have or get power. Someone with a lot of power assert their status by using their status. Usually lines like "I out rank you," Or "I'm your boss." Usually come up here or there; once again having to do with power or status. If you think about it power and status are really the same thing or at least always go together. There's a thought for the day.

Which of your faces/masks/personas is really you?

Please devote a paragraphy to a well structured, well edited response. This is due: Wed. Oct. 8
I think it's my home face that is the real me. If everyone was exactly started acting like the do at home, outside that would be an interesting world to live in. Everyone has a different persona with everyone. What I mean by that is that if for whatever reason you decided to lie or something to the person you have to keep going with that lie and you have to say things to move around them finding out it was a lie. Another thing is status. If someone is your buddy of course you're going to talk casually with them but if its a a family friend who you don't really know that well you say things that you think will please them. So yes I think my house or more specifically "room Spencer" is my actually me.
